About

Betty Priolo is a Yountville artist in
Napa Valley, California.

I started painting seriously in 1988 when I  went to Italy as a color consultant.  I spent 14 years designing and painting ceramics for the Ubaldo Grazia Maiolica factory in Deruta, Italy and painting watercolors and acrylics on my own. My ceramics and paintings are in collections in Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, England and the United States. I also re-created interlocking ceramic sculptures from my undergraduate days that were accepted in the Gualdo Tadino International show in 1992 – quite a coup for an American working in Deruta.

I graduated from California College of Arts and Crafts in 1980 with a Master of Fine Arts in Video.  My undergraduate degree is from Cal State Hayward in Sculpture, 1976. Since returning to Yountville permanently in 2007, I have been painting acrylics on canvas.

My interest in color and abstraction can be seen in my artwork on this web site.  Most of the pieces are acrylic on canvas and many have been painted in the last few months.  It has been a time of complete joyful self expression. I turn on the music of Franz Liszt, say my mantra while holding the end of the paint brush to her forehead, choose the tubes of paint and start. With tremendous expenditure of energy, the painting emerges.
